El Clasico: Three talking points as Barcelona destroys Real Madrid
1. Title contenders for the upcoming season
When Xavi took over Barca, he knew that a lot of work needed to be done. Winning the La Liga was not even on his agenda and he said that it was going to take some time before the Catalans could be mentioned in a conversation about winning titles. His main goal was to bring Barca back to the Champions League spots and win the Europa League. He managed to do the first part and now it seems like the second part is an inevitable event, just waiting to happen. The Catalans got out of their bad run of form and are looking terrifyingly good now.
One thing that not many fans or critics would have anticipated is the pace at which Xavi changed the club. Yes, there were a few bumps on the road but everything got solved slowly and now they have just managed to beat the league leaders in a more than convincing manner. The team is playing flawless fluid football reminiscence of the playing style of the early 2010s. Last night they could have scored a lot more and it just shows how far the team has progressed under Xavi.
With players such as Pedri, Frenkie de Jong, Aubameyang and Ousmane Dembele performing week in and week out, it seems like Barca could be title contenders for the next season. Apart from that, Joan Laporta has put real trust in Xavi and is ready to back the manager on and off the pitch. Barcelona is no longer the team that conceded eight goals against Bayern Munich, they have been reborn with passion and commitment to the crest. The next season will be a very interesting one for La Liga and if Xavi manages to get the likes of Andreas Christensen, Erling Haaland and Noussair Mazraoui, then it will be very tough for Madrid to defend their title.
