Barcelona did not just beat Real Madrid last night, they did so in an emphatic fashion. The 13 times European Champions were humbled in their own backyard after they failed to take the Catalans seriously. Barca took advantage of Ferland Mendy’s absence and kept exploiting the right-wing all night. The score at the end of the night was 4-0 which is a huge defeat for Los Blancos however, they were lucky that it did not go beyond that. The Catalans had a lot of chances and had it not been for some bad finishes and some good saves from their keeper, it would have easily been six or eight goals.

One more thing that they failed to take into account was Perrie-Emerick Aubameyang’s record against them. The Gabonese striker had already scored against them in four consecutive meetings and he seems to be their kryptonite. Barca got the former Arsenal captain on a free transfer and his form has just been impeccable, thus to not take extra measures to keep the striker quiet, was another mistake on Madrid’s behalf. Not only did Aubameyang score an amazing brace against Real, but he also broke a record, as he becomes the first man to score in five consecutive appearances against Madrid in the 21st century.

Words cannot describe how much of an impact the player has had on the Catalan side and his mere presence in front of the goal is becomes intimidating for the other team. The player scored his first goal in the 47th minute and then scored again moments later in the 51st minute to make it 4-0 and officially finish the game for the men in white. Now, the former Borussia Dortmund player has nine goals in 11 appearances across all competitions and it seems like Xavi was right, Aubameyang is indeed a gift from the skies.
