In January, Barcelona was scrambling for players. They managed to get Ferran Torres but they wanted more players on loan and that was proving quite difficult. Apart from the attack, the Catalans also wanted a sort of a hotfix for their defence. While their centre-back situation is still manageable with the likes of Ronald Araujo and Eric Garcia putting in good performances, they still needed to fix their full back sitatuin. Back in January, Sergino Dest was not being selected by Xavi Hernandez due to performance issues and Dani Alves was struggling to keep up with the speedy youngsters. Thus, a new full back did not seem completely out of the blue.

The main player that they wanted to bring in was Ajax’s Noussair Mazraoui but they knew that the Dutch side would not sell him for cheap even though his contract is ending this year. Instead, the club came up with a more creative solution and tried signing Nicolas Tagliafico instead. The Argentine right-back would have been a brilliant signing as a temporary solution but if he managed to impress the manager he could have been retained as well. It seemed like the deal was going to happen but the clubs could not come to an agreement at the end.

Tagliafico was looking forward to joing Barca and thus he was left disappointed when the deal broke down. Howeevr, the player still has hopes for his Barca dreams and he said in an interview with TNT Sports,

"“There was an interest, the clubs spoke, but they did not agree… It was something complicated for the club at that moment, but I think surely now in June it will be easier,”_Source TNT Sports"

Thus, it is clear that the player still wants to move to the Blaugrana at the end of the season however, whether Barca needs him or not is another question.

The problem now is that Barcelona is already going for Cesar Azpilicueta and Mazraoui in the summer and they just do not need Tagliafico, thus this is one transfer that won’t be happening.
