Why is Kylian Mbappe being linked with Barcelona?

Barcelona president, Joan Laporta, made one thing very clear, the Catalans are not afraid to spend money and they will spend money. The president for long has been thinking about bringing in a superstar player next season and his player of choice is Erling Haaland. The Norwegian striker has been an absolute menace in the Bundesliga and he made a name for himself in the UEFA Champions League as well. His current scoring record is one goal per game and that is absolutely insane. Thus, Barca, a team that needs a permanent striker, would obviously try to go for a super striker like Haaland however, it is now being reported that the Catalans could go for Kylian Mbappe instead.

Barcelona changes priority from Erling Haaland to Kylian Mbappe

The report about Barca being interested in Mbappe came from French publishers, l’Equipe. The original plan was to go for Haaland however, with the fact that the Catalans already spent around 60 million euros for Ferran Torres, funds are a bit low and Barca needs to save up as much as they can. The best players to go for at the moment are free agents. Mbappe is going to be a free agent at the end of the season and yes, while the Catalans might have to pay a bit more as his weekly wages, there will be in transfer fee.

On the other hand, not only will the Blaugrana have to pay for Haanland’s transfer fee but will also have to pay a heft sum to his agent. The problem with Mpabbe however, is the fact that the player loves Real Madrid and has been talking about going there for a few seasons. Thus, although financially Mbappe makes more sense than Haaland for Barca, there is a very slim chance of him going to the Blaugrana. According to reports Laporta will offer him a contract but Madrid is still his favoured team.
