Barcelona president confirms that there been no communication with Dembele
Barcelona could be losing one of their best stars in the summer. The player, Ousmane Dembele, was brought to Barca for a reported fee of 100 million euros however, he might leave for free in July since his contract is coming to an end and he has no intentions of renewing the contract, or at least that is what we think. The player was close to signing a contract in January however, after speaking with his agent, he decided that the Catalans were not offering him enough wages and bonuses and thus he rejected the contract offer.
Barcelona is yet to begin new negotiation with Ousmane Dembele
His own demands were too high and thus it was decided that he would be sold in January however, that did not go according to plan either. He has since then made a resurgence in form and has been an important player for the team, creating a dilemma of whether the club should try to keep him or let him go. Obviously, the better option would be to keep him, however, according to Joan Laporta, there have been no new talks about contract renewal with Dembele. In an interview with Mundo Deportivo, he said,
"“At the present time, on our part, we have not heard that [Dembele] wants to stay on,”“I don’t know if his agent has been in touch but I don’t think so, because I would know, and we are focused first and foremost on this final stage of La Liga to try and win it.“At the end of the season I suppose there may be some sort of talks but inside the salary limits we are setting.”_Source Goal via Mundo Deportivo"
Laporta made it clear that Dembele is not their main concern at the moment and they want to finish the season in a strong manner. The team could still mathematically win the league but that is going to be a miracle however, what they can win and should win is the Europa League. Keeping Dembele would help the team a lot however, they must focus on the bigger picture at the moment.
