Erling Haaland to cost Barcelona almost 200 million euros!
When Joan Laporta came became the Barcelona president, people had big hopes for him. He was a Catalan president before and he helped the club out in a previous financial crisis. His plan was simple, get a manager who could reignite the Barca philosophy, make the youths the main focus and bring in a few reinforcements via the free-agent market. However, although he did not want to splurge much in the beginning, his ideas have changed a little bit and he spent around 60 million euros on Ferran Torres.
He is not done spending either and his next target is Erling Haaland. The Norwegian super striker was the manager’s first target even during the presidential campaign and he even spoke to Haaland’s agent several times. Laporta is ready for one super transfer and Haaland makes a lot of sense. The player is young, passionate and already a superstar. However, it seems like Laporta will need to change his plans because the Borussia Dortmund striker could end up costing as much as 200 million euros!
Barcelona might need to look for alternatives for Erling Haaland due to his price
Yes, you read that right. According to AS, the player’s release clause is set at 75 million euros however, the club will also have to pay his agent, Mino Raiola, who is notorious for taking huge commissions. Plus, the club will also have to pay Haaland’s father. Raiola demands 50 million euros for himself and 50 million for Haaland’s father. The player also has a huge 17 million euros per season demand and there will be added bonuses as well.
That is the kind of money Barcelona cannot afford to spend right now. Yes, the club can spend it if they absolutely want to but they need to pay off their debt as well. The club is already in 1 billion euros debt and they must repay it soon lest the amount gets bigger via interest. Barca has a few alternatives lined up but Haaland is pretty much Laporta’s first choice and with the number of talks that have been going on between Raiola and Laporta, it will be surprising to see the player end up anywhere else.
