Barcelona has made it their goal to get in new players in the summer in order to make the team ready to fight for the UEFA Champions League and the La Liga. Currently, the team is respectable and there are many young stars who will soon become the face of the club however, there are some areas in the team that needs an update. According to several reports, the Catalans have been looking for defenders in order to replace their current ageing ones. Both the centre-back positions and the wing-back positions need to be updated and the club has already found a few suitable targets.

While the CB position will require just one new player, given the fact that they have young players like Ronald Araujo and Eric Garcia already, the full-back positions are a bit more complicated. The right-back position is currently being occupied by Dani Alves and the left-back position is filled up by Jordi Alba. This means that both of their full-backs are nearing towards the end of their careers and the club must immediately find replacements for them. Jose Gaya, the Valencia captain was Barca’s primary target for the left-back position for a couple of seasons now, however, they are preparing a backup in case Gaya does not join them.

According to Mundo Deportivo, the Catalans have identified Celta Vigo’s Javi Galan as Gaya’s alternative. The 27-year-old is a regular starter for Celta and he has a contract till 2026. However, according to Espana, the club has a good relationship with Barca which means that a possible negotiation can take place. The player recently transferred from a second division Spanish team to Celta however, he has shown great skills in the first division and he is more than capable of playing with elite teams.
