Agent of Villarreal´s Juan Foyth spotted in Barcelona after meeting with Alemany
Robert Lewandowski, Raphinha, and Jules Kounde are just a couple of great signings that FC Barcelona has been able to afford in this transfer window, alongside the free transfers of Frank Kessie and Andreas Christensen. A surprising number of new additions that did not seem possible after Barcelona fell out of the Champions League last season and failed to win any trophies. Now, with world-class players up top and in the midfield, Barcelona continues to look for players that will be able to strengthen their back four before the end of the transfer window.
Chelsea´s Marcos Alonso has been linked to the Catalans for most of this transfer window. However, Villarreal´s Juan Foyth now seems to be Barca´s priority to improve their defence after the players´ agent was spotted leaving Barca´s training facility after meeting Mateu Alemany, the sporting director of Los Cules.
At 24 years old, Foyth has become a leading man for Villarreal since his signing from Tottenham in 2021, helping the yellow submarines reach the semi-finals of the UEFA Champions League last season. In addition to his Premier League experience, The Argentinian has been impressive and has shown his ability to play as a right-back and centre-back for club and country, which would improve depth in Xavi´s defence.
Nevertheless, according to Marca, Villarreal is unwilling to negotiate with the Catalans over the Argentinian defender, forcing Barca to pay a release clause of 42 million euros. This clause could be too much for the Blaugranas to spend at this stage of this transfer window, given all the money spent on new signings and issues registering new and renewed players.
Only time will tell if Barcelona will be able to reach an agreement for Juan Foyth. Still, in the meantime, Barca needs a versatile defender, and Foyth could be the one to strengthen a criticized Barcelona defence.
