Chelsea offer a reported fee to Barcelona for Aubameyang
After signing Pierre-Emmerick Aubameyang in the winter transfer window from Arsenal, the Gabonese striker is set to move back to the Premier League as Chelsea have now stepped up their interest in the player and have made a 23 million pound offer to Los Cules. The offer comes after a fair amount of transfer rumours have been circulating about Aubameyang, especially after the signing of Robert Lewandowski from Bayern. However, in recent weeks, Xavi clarified that ‘Auba’ would remain an integral part of the squad and that he would not leave Camp Nou, which does not seem to be the case anymore.
The former Arsenal captain, now 33 years old, has been a great addition to the club since he departed from the Gunners in January. 11 goals in just 17 LaLiga matches are excellent numbers that helped Barcelona return to the UEFA Champions League and secure a second-place finish in the league table, which the fans have greatly appreciated. Nevertheless, Barcelona’s financial situation will force the club to sell to bring in new players. Therefore, with Robert Lewandowski up top, it will be difficult for Barca not to accept an offer for Aubameyang that would contribute to registering Jules Kounde in the league and strengthening their defence.
With Barcelona full of attacking options, dealing an ageing Aubameyang to Chelsea could benefit Barca in the long term, with the likes of Fati, Dembele, and Raphinha all proving to be world-class players. Despite Barca’s disappointing start to the season, the club has made incredible signings in attack and midfield that, with time, will turn into success. However, Mateu Alemany cannot improve a struggling Barcelona defence if the club does not continue to sell players.
Aubameyang could be off to the Premier League before Los Blaugranas take on Real Sociedad on Sunday in their second official game of the season. But, till then, do not be surprised if other names, such as Memphis Depay or Sergiño Dest, are also dealt to other clubs before the end of the summer transfer window.
