Barcelona look to hijack Manchester United transfer target
Despite recent reports of a transfer ban placed on Barcelona for the summer window, the Catalan giants continue to be linked with many big-name signings.
Xavi Hernandez is keen on bringing reinforcements in the summer but the club’s existing debt is making it difficult to sign prolific players. While the Spaniard is targeting more affordable alternatives, especially from the free agents market, Blaugrana’s wage bill is making it difficult to compete with other European giants in terms of salaries as well.
Barcelona close to securing World Cup Finalist
Despite this, Barca aren’t backing down from competing for all available talents in the market with Fichajes reporting that World Cup finalist Marcus Thuram is nearing a move to Camp Nou.
The son of football legend Lilian Thuram, Marcus has impressed many this season with multiple Premier League giants looking to secure him in the summer. Arsenal, Chelsea, and Manchester United have all been linked with the 25-year-old with Atletico Madrid and Paris Saint-Germain keeping a close eye on the situation, however, Barcelona are said to be leading the race.
The centre-forward’s contract with Borrusia Monchengladbach expires at the end of the season and reports claim that an exit is inevitable. The French international is said to be the biggest bargain in the upcoming window as any club could potentially secure the soon-to-be free agent who has been in great form this season, scoring 14 goals and providing 4 assists in 24 appearances across all competition.
Mundo Deportivo recently reported that the youngster’s agent has offered him to the Catalans with an important factor being his father Lilian’s relationship with the club, having played in Blaugrana colors for two seasons in 2006. While the Forward is ready, President Joan Laporta will need to fix the club’s finances before confirming any new signings for the summer.
