Barcelona midfielder Frenkie de Jong is a wanted man in Europe with multiple Premier League giants looking to secure him in the upcoming summer transfer window amidst the club’s transfer ban.
The Catalan giants might need to sell multiple players in the summer in order to raise £178 million and comply with the Financial Fair Play regulations imposed by La Liga. This has resulted in many superstars being linked with a summer exit with De Jong among the top targets for multiple European giants, especially for Premier League clubs like Manchester United.
Barcelona reject all offers for Frenkie de Jong
Sport reports that Barca consider the Dutch international untouchable and will not consider any offer for this summer. Xavi Hernandez has made it very clear that he prefers to play a four-man midfield with Gavi, Pedri, De Jong and Sergio Busquets.
Busquets is said to be leaving Camp Nou this summer and while Xavi is keen on keeping the 34-year-old for another season, his departure could be another problem the Spanish boss needs to resolve. While Franck Kessie remains an option, De Jong has been named the rightful successor to Busquets and deemed untransferable.
Former Ajax boss Erik ten Hag is keen on bringing the 25-year-old to Old Trafford and with potential new owners said to arrive, the Red Devils could be ready to offer a massive transfer fee for the superstar. With the Blaugranas needing to raise £178m in order to bring reinforcements in the summer, De Jong could be used as a scapegoat to resolve this major issue. It remains to be seen whether Xavi values the midfielder above potential new signings or if president Joan Lapota manages to fix the club’s finances with other solutions.
