Barcelona beat Valencia to move nine points clear of Real Madrid at the top of the La Liga table. Raphinha’s first-half goal and Marc-André ter Stegen’s 18th clean sheet of the league season ensured a 1-0 win at home for the Blaugrana. Meanwhile, Los Blancos uncharacteristically failed to score against Real Betis and dropped two points in match week 24.

Barca can attribute much of their success in the title race so far to their resilient backline led by brilliant Ronald Araújo, who didn’t shy away from receiving a red card to stop Valencia from scoring. As far as goals are concerned, Real Madrid have actually scored more times in the league this season than Xavi Hernández’s men.

The league leaders are far from convincing going forward, and even on Saturday, could only manage as many shots as Valencia (13) at Spotify Camp Nou. Robert Lewandowski’s absence hasn’t helped, but the former Bayern Munich striker has also not been at his best since the World Cup.

As such, addressing the attack should be Barcelona’s priority in the summer transfer window. And it seems, the board is making progress on that front.

Barcelona in advanced talks to sign Arsenal target from Brazilian club

It is being reported by Relevo that Barcelona and Athletico Paranaense are advancing in negotiations for the transfer of Vitor Roque. Positive talks have already taken place. The Brazilian forward, who was prolific for his country in the U-20 South American Championship in February, has attracted interest from Premier League table-toppers Arsenal (via talkSPORT) as well, but the Spanish outfit are determined to go until the end.

The signing of Roque is likely to exceed €40 million including variables, but Barcelona are willing to move ahead. It is added that talks have been so positive that the Brazilian club thinks their star forward will eventually wear the Barca jersey next season. Arsenal may have to look elsewhere this time.
