Ever since his exit from Barcelona, World Cup winner Lionel Messi has constantly been linked with a return to Camp Nou. The seven-time Ballon d’Or winner’s contract with Paris Saint-Germain concludes at the end of the season and while the French giants are keen on renewing him, his future remains uncertain.

Many believe that the 35-year-old wants to remain in Europe and will likely sign a lucrative renewal deal with the Parisians for at least one more year. However, Diario AS reports that a potential return to Camp Nou is on the table with Messi and Barca in conversation to make the reunion a reality in June.

PSG had initially excited the world media by teasing an interview with Messi but it was about the Argentine opening up about his national team’s triumph at the 2022 FIFA World Cup. The Catalans maintain their desire to have the legend return home, especially to see a partnership with Robert Lewandowski under the management of Xavi Hernandez.

President Joan Laporta recently opened up about the Argentine international’s Barca exit,

"“If I went back, I would have liked not to make the decision, but I had to. The institution is above the players, even though it is the best in history. We did not have Fair Play and LaLiga did not allow it either. I would have liked to, but I didn’t know how to do it.” said Laporta.Source Sport"

While the Blaugrana chief wants to see Leo return, the transfer ban placed on the club by La Liga could once again make it impossible for the Catalans to make his return a reality. Laporta must now find a way to comply with La Liga’s Financial Fair Play regulations before dreaming about any possible signings for the summer.
