Barcelona president Joan Laporta partook in a discussion at the Círculo Ecuestre de Barcelona, and has now opened up about the future of Sergio Busquets.
The 34-year-old’s contract with the Catalan giants expires this summer and speculations regarding his future have been flying in recent weeks with ESPN reporting a move to MLS as the most likely outcome.
However, Barca boss Xavi Hernandez is keen on keeping the club legend for at least one more season despite having a crowded midfield. The Spanish boss has shown a clear preference for having a four-man midfield with Pedri, Gavi, Frenkie de Jong and Busquets. On top of that, Franck Kessie remains a great backup with youngster Pablo Torre also showing promise.

Barca are yet to find the perfect replacement for the maestro as after 711 appearances for the club, no one in the world understands the defensive midfield role for the Catalans better than him. Frenkie de Jong is said to be the ideal candidate to take over the 34-year-old when he leaves but Manchester United have made the Dutch midfielder their top priority for the summer.
