Despite having a transfer ban placed on them, Barcelona are continuing to scout the market to sign potential reinforcements in the summer transfer window.

President Joan Laporta recently revealed his transfer plans for the summer with the signing of a new right-back, striker, and centre-back being made the priority. However, before any players are brought in, the Catalan giants must either sell some players or reduce their wage bill in order to raise £178 million to comply with La Liga’s Financial Fair Play regulations.

Multiple players have now been linked with an exit in order to meet this requirement, with the overstacked midfield potential being the target. Coach Xavi Hernandez has shown a preference for playing a 4-man midfield with Gavi, Pedri, Frenkie de Jong, and Sergio Busquets. On top of that, both Franck Kessie and Pablo Torre remain great options on the bench.

With both De Jong and Kessie being linked with an exit and Busquets potentially leaving the club in the summer after his contract expires, Xavi is exploring the market for potential reinforcements.

German starlet reveals desire to play for Barcelona

Sport reports that the Catalans are very interested in signing Bayern Leverkusen youngster Florian Wirtz with Xavi already contacting the midfielder’s father. However, a deal will not be easy with the Bundesliga giants valuing the 19-year-old at roughly €70 million, and with a contract running until 2027, they are in no hurry to consider his exit.

The German international revealed in 2021 that playing for Barcelona would be a dream come true,

"“When I was a kid I always wanted to play for Barcelona. Nothing has changed, but until then I still have some time” Wirtz told Sport Bild"

The reports now suggest that Barca have asked the midfielder to be patient while they plan on making his difficult transfer a reality.
