“Don’t want to hear anything” – Barcelona target not interested in transfer
By Vishal Singh
Martin Zubimendi, touted as a potential Sergio Busquets replacement at Barcelona, isn’t looking to leave Real Sociedad in the summer transfer window.
Busquets has been impressive, a bit like his old self, lately. Xavi’s four-man midfield has reduced the veteran midfielder’s work off the ball, while allowing him to still dictate play in possession. Such has been his form that Barca are now keen to extend his contract. With his current deal set to expire at the end of the season, a number of clubs have been linked with the Spaniard.
However, irrespective of the decision Busquets takes in next few weeks, it’s vital Barcelona bring another midfielder to either challenge or replace him altogether. At 34, it won’t be wise to expect him to be available and deliver consistent performances in multiple competitions.
His absence against Manchester United in the first leg of the Europa League proved costly, as the Red Devils played through the La Liga outfit’s midfield with ease.
Barcelona transfer target is not interested in leaving this summer
Several names have been mentioned as Busquets’ possible replacement, but none more so than the Real Sociedad prodigy.
Zubimendi, who has arguably been the best defensive midfielder in Spain this season, has attracted interest from numerous sides. Arsenal were reported to be keen on his signing in January, but the 24-year-old never considered leaving San Sebastian. And his recent comments suggest his mood in the summer is going to be the same.
"“I told my agents that I don’t want to hear anything, especially last January. When someone wants to be in a club, the buy-out clause doesn’t matter. It will be another calm summer, I’m happy at Real Sociedad,” Zubimendi said.Source: Fabrizio Romano"
The talented midfielder, who has led Imanol Alguacil’s side to fourth place in the La Liga table, has a €60million release clause in his contract, making him an attractive option for many clubs. But for now, his suitors, including Barcelona, will have to look elsewhere.
