Monaco right-back Vanderson is happy to stay in France this summer in order to secure a move to Barcelona in 2024, as per SPORT.
Barca is being forced to play a patient game due to the financial fair play rules. Although there was an amendment to that rule last week as ESPN explained:
"Clubs in excess of their league-imposed spending limit for the season — which includes Barca — will now be able to spend 50% of anything they save or raise on signing new players. In addition, if the saving they make on a departing player accounts for more than 5% of their spending limit, they will be able to invest 60% on incomings."
Despite the transfer boost, Barcelona is still unable to offer the €30 million it’s going to take to secure Vanderson, due to needing to upgrade other areas of the pitch.
Deco had reportedly tried to convince Barca to sign Vanderson before the Brazilian made his move from Grêmio to Moncao in January 2022.
Vanderson prepared to wait for Barcelona
However Vanderson is keen on a move to Catalonia now, and as such, is prepared to stay at Monaco this summer despite reported interest from Manchester United.
Vanderson is an attacking right-back who loves getting forward, chipping in with the odd goal and assist. He’s also a capable set-piece taker.
The move for the Monaco man in 2024 won’t stop the Blaugrana from trying to upgrade the position in 2023 at a lower cost. Reports indicate that 18-year-old Iván Fresneda of Valladolid is an option.
Fresneda would also only cost between €10-€15 million, making that a viable transfer for Barca this summer.
Right back has been a problem position for Barcelona with Xavi having to use centre-back Jules Kounde as a makeshift option there last season.
The La Liga champions do have Sergino Dest who spent last year on loan at AC Milan, but the club are trying to move on from the American international and don’t see him being part of the future.
Barcelona did insert a €20 million buy-option in the loan deal with AC Milan, but the Italian giants chose not to activate it due to Dest’s poor form in Milan. The USMNT star has been linked with moves to Union Berlin and Besiktas this summer, but as of today, no offers have materialised.
