PSG to move for Barcelona forward to replace Mbappe
PSG is ready to bid for Barcelona forward Ousmane Dembélé in the event that Kylian Mbappe leaves the club.
According to a report by Foot Mercato journalist Santi Aouna, Dembélé has a €50 million release clause in his contract and the Parisian side are ready to trigger that clause with the French international being a player that new manager Luis Enrique appreciates.
PSG have long held an interest in Dembélé and attempted to sign the former Rennes man last season, Dembélé ended up signing a new deal to keep him at Camp Nou.
That deal is set to expire in the summer of 2024 and as Aouna mentions, it contains a modest release clause of €50 million.
Dembele happy at Barcelona
Reports like this can be worrying for fans of Barcelona considering the financial situation, but it’s not time to hit the panic button just yet.
Dembélé has long said that he is happy at Barcelona and reports earlier this month in SPORT revealed that the club are looking to extend his contract through to 2027.
The exciting winger was a key component of the La Liga champions last season scoring 8 goals and registering 9 assists in 35 games, and it’s believed that Barcelona have no interest in entertaining the idea of him leaving the club.
The French forward’s ability on and off the ball is ideal for the system that Xavi like to operate which is predicated on space and movement off the ball to create said space.
Barcelona have already reportedly completed the signing of Vitor Roque, and they’ll be hoping that Dembélé will be here when he arrives.
Contract negotiations dragged on last summer, so Barcelona will want to close this deal as soon as possible. Especially now PSG is sniffing around.
