Growing confidence that Oriol Romeu will join Barcelona
The signing of Oriol Romeu from Girona has been slightly delayed as Barcelona made completing the deal for Vitor Roque a priority. But now that deal seems secure, they will turn their attention to bringing in Romeu, hoping to complete his signing in time for the USA tour.
According to a report in SPORT, the deal should be completed in the coming days with Girona looking to move quickly to find a replacement.
Although there have been some reports recently which indicated that the Gironistes were unhappy with Barcelona, Ivan Saint Anthony suggests that’s not the case at all, it’s the complete opposite. Negotiations have been civil and productive between the two sides as Barcelona made it a priority to keep strong relations with the Catalonia club.
There is some confusion around the fee that will be paid. Recent reports indicated that the release clause for Romeu was set at €8 million and Barca were negotiating to reduce that number. However, Saint Anthony suggests that the release clause is €5 million, which makes the signing a lot more viable financially.
Barcelona could include a player in the Romeu deal
A report in Mundo Deportivo this morning indicates that Barcelona could include a player in the deal to lower the financial outgoing.
There are several options being discussed, but Nico may make the most sense considering Girona will be looking for a midfield replacement.
Other options include forward Estanis Pedrola and winger Abde Ezzalzouli. Girona had been interested in Abde last season before the Moroccan found his way on loan to Osasuna.
One final option would be Pablo Torre. The attacking midfielder made 8 appearances for the senior side last year and is highly thought of at Barca.
But chances are he’ll struggle to gain the minutes needed for his development this year, and spending a year on loan at Girona could be beneficial for all parties.
Regardless of how the deal is structured, there is growing confidence that Romeu will be playing his football at Barcelona next season.
