Fluminense midfielder offered to Barcelona
It’s no secret that Barcelona are looking to strengthen their midfield. Club president Joan Laporta said this week that the aim was to bring in two central midfielders. Now it’s been revealed that Barcelona have been offered the chance to sign Brazilian international Andre Trindade.
According to 90min, the midfielders’ representatives have been in touch with Barca to gauge the interest of the La Liga champions. He’s also been offered to Liverpool and Arsenal, yet the report indicates that it is London-based Fulham who are leading the race to sign him.
Fulham have long held an interest in Trindade having come close to signing him in January, but the deal for just under €24 million was never concluded. Now it’s expected that any permanent transfer would cost up to €30 million after a string of good performances and an international debut for Trindade.
If Trindade were to make a move to Barca, he would follow Vitor Roque who officially signed with the Catalan side this week.
What kind of player is Andre Trindade?
Although he started his career as an attacking option, even appearing as a striker in his youth. Trindade has become one of the most highly respected defensive midfielders in Brazilian football.
Despite being just 21 years old, Andre has made 95 appearances for Fluminense and made his international debut in Brazil’s 4-2 defeat to Senegal.
Under the watch of manager Roger Machado, Trindade was placed in the pivot position of a three-man midfield, and that’s where his career really began to take off.
Trindade quickly established himself as the premier ball-winner in Brazilian football, constantly being in the right place to intercept passes.
He became more confident on the ball in both the short and long game, he even started carrying the ball forward to break the lines of the defence.
Under new coach Fernando Diniz, Trindade has gone from strength to strength and is now considered a leading candidate to replace the likes of Casemiro in the Brazil midfield when the veteran decides to call time on his career.
The big question that remains unanswered is, does Barca have an interest in signing Andre? If they do, can they afford him?
