Recently Joao Felix has dominated the headlines with his comments about making a dream move to Barcelona, but according to a recent report by Mundo Deportivo, the La Liga champions have one priority, and that’s signing Manchester City midfielder Bernardo Silva.

The Felix link has always seemed tenuous to me considering Barca has made it no secret that their priority in the transfer market is to sign a right-back and attacking midfielder. Felix acts as a shadow striker, and while he’s a talented individual, his price tag makes him a luxury that Barcelona can ill afford.

A report surfaced yesterday which indicated that Xavi didn’t see Felix fitting into his team, and that’s been strengthened today with the MD piece on Bernardo Silva.

According to Roger Torello, the signing of Silva enjoys a consensus with Barca management, whereas Felix divides opinion. Silva wants to be a Barcelona player and Xavi sees him as the ideal candidate capable of unlocking defences.

Any signing at the moment is incredibly difficult with the financial fair play regulations. But if Barca could sign one player and one player only, it would be Bernardo Silva.

Pep Guardiola made a commitment to Silva that he would allow the Portuguese playmaker to leave for Barcelona if they received a satisfactory offer for the Catalonia club, but no such offer has been made.

Barcelona’s financial situation is preventing an opening bid for Bernardo Silva

That has nothing to do with interest and everything to do with the financial situation. If it weren’t for the financial fair play regulation, Silva would likely already be a Barca player.

Instead, Barcelona needs to generate some balance by selling certain players. One such player is Franck Kessie, with Barca setting the price for his transfer with Juventus determined to confirm his signature. Another potential departure is Ferran Torres, but no concrete offers have been made for the young Spanish international.

Expect this transfer saga to go on through the summer, as long as Bernardo Silva is available, Barcelona will be linked.
