According to a report in L’Equipe this morning, Barcelona and PSG are set to have a phone conversation today to discuss a possible deal for French superstar striker Kylian Mbappé.
The report indicates that Barca is keen to include multiple players in the deal, aware that they are in no financial position to offer the kind of money that PSG are looking for.
In the same article, it is reported that PSG has accepted a €300 million offer from Saudi club Al-Hilal, but it’s unclear if Mbappé has any interest in moving to Saudi Arabia.
There are multiple teams named in the report with English clubs Chelsea, Manchester United, and Tottenham appearing next to Serie A side and Champions League finalists Inter Milan.
A tough deal to pull off for Barcelona Financially
Although there is very little detail included in the report and with L’Equipe known for being speculative, I’m not sure how much stock I’d put in this.
PSG may have interest in a number of Barca players including Frenkie de Jong who they tried to sign from Ajax, but would Barca really entertain sending multiple first-team players to the French capital in exchange for Mbappé?
Real Madrid have been consistently linked with Mbappé and signing him from under their noses would be enjoyable, but at what cost?
Chances are Mbappé will want to stay in France for another year in order to collect his loyalty bonus of €70 million, and who can blame him?
The idea of Mbappé joining the likes of Robert Lewandowski and Dembele in the Barca attack makes for an attractive proposition, but there is a good chance that PSG would demand Dembele in any deal for the French striker.
I would file this report under pure speculation and I’d be extremely surprised to see this come to fruition.
