Barcelona star turned down PSG approach months ago
I don’t know what it is about PSG, but if you hear a ridiculous rumour involving a Barcelona player, it’s likely based on a link to PSG. Right now, we’re dealing with some Ousmane Dembele reports, but at the moment, there is absolutely nothing concrete. Last night it was also revealed that Pedri had turned PSG down three months ago.
The French champions dreamed of pairing Pedri with superstar striker Kylian Mbappé, but not only did Pedri refuse to even talk to PSG because of his love for Barcelona, but now it seems as though Mbappé may be on his way out as well.
Late last night a report surfaced that indicated there was a €110 million release clause in the contract of the Barca midfielder, but football insider Fabrizio Romano debunked that immediately.
Pedri’s release clause actually sits at €1 billion, and even then, if by some moment of madness, PSG offered that crazy sum, they’d still need to convince Pedri to leave.
Transfermarkt currently values Pedri at €100 million, but that wouldn’t be enough to convince Barca to sell their prized asset. As Joan Laporta said recently, Barca is not a selling club.
It’s unlikely that Pedri would entertain a move away from Camp Nou, he’s a key member of the Xavi starting XI and has always professed his love for Barca, the team, the city and his role within the set-up.
The 20-year-old Pedri joined Barca from Las Palmas in 2020 and has already made 75 appearances for the La Liga champions, scoring 13 goals.
Pedri made 35 appearances for Barca last season, with 25 of them coming in La Liga. While he was out injured, Barca lacked a cutting edge and struggled to break teams down. His ability on the ball to dribble or spot cutting pass is vital if Xavi hopes to repeat as league champions in 2023/24.
The transfer window is always entertaining for fans, but there’s always a lot of absolute nonsense.
Pedri is going nowhere, so I think we can safely put that one to bed. Now, what about Dembele? Chances are he stays, but it’s certainly one to keep an eye on.
