Barcelona are always on the lookout to strengthen their La Masia academy, signing players from all around the world in the hope that one day they may turn into stars. Almugera Kabar, a 17-year-old left-back from Borussia Dortmund is attracting significant interest from the La Liga Champions.

A report in BILD (subscription required) indicates that the representatives of Kabar are currently negotiating with the Barcelona bosses over a potential move to Catalonia.

Kabar was part of the German U17 team that lifted the UEFA U17 Championship trophy back in May, and he was one of the standout performers in the tournament. He helped Germany keep a clean sheet in the final against France, a game that they eventually won 5-4 on penalties.

According to the report in Bild, Barcelona has yet to make a bid for the promising youngster. But if they believe that Kabar wants to join, then they’ll almost certainly try and negotiate a fee with BVB.

Predominantly a left-back, Kabar can play in every position down the wing and has also appeared as a winger. Known for his technical ability, and ability to get forward and put balls into the box, his attacking nature matches perfectly with Xavi’s philosophy on how he likes his full-backs to play.

Dortmund have no interest in letting Kabar leave

The Bremen-born Kabar is highly thought of in Dortmund and Borussia have absolutely no intention of letting him leave.

The team have already planned out his progression through the youth ranks with the 17-year-old set to join the U19 team managed by Mike Tullberg, before moving on to Jan Zimmermann’s Borussia Dortmund 2 and eventually the first-team.

His path to first-team football is likely clearer in Germany. Although the report references the expiring contract of Marcos Alonso, it fails to mention Alejandro Balde, a player who is quickly becoming one of the best left-backs in the world.

With Balde only just about to turn 20, the hope is that he’ll be a permanent fixture at left-back for Barcelona for the foreseeable future. Although adding depth is never a bad thing for a team who are financially troubled.

Barca has already made several key additions to the Barça Atlètic team for the upcoming season, including highly-rated striker Diego Percan.
