PSG preparing bid for Barcelona forward Ansu Fati
If I were never to hear the acronym ‘PSG’ ever again, I’d be a very happy man. The French champions have already signed Arnaud Tenas and Ousmane Dembele will follow, as soon as the dispute over the transfer fee is resolved. Now former Barcelona and Spain boss Luis Enrique is targeting another Barca player.
According to a report in AS, PSG are lining up a big for Barca forward Ansu Fati.
The report indicates that Enrique is keen on the Barca forward having working with him in the national setup and he’s willing to use two things to his advantage.
The first is the dire financial situation at Barcelona, with the Catalan club still over €1 billion in debt, despite a number of financial levers being pulled. Even with Dembele set to leave, followed by Franck Kessie and Clement Lenglet, Barca could do with opening up more financial space under La Liga’s fair play regulations.
The second is the playing-time conundrum. Having recovered from a serious injury, Fati’s appearances were largely off the bench last year, and with Xavi preferring to play a false winger on the left in Pedri, his opportunities to start are expected to be limited again this year.
Ansu has no desire to leave Barcelona this summer
If you’re thinking this is just another Ousmane Dembele situation waiting to happen, there’s one big difference. Ansu Fati has not desire to leave Barcelona.
It’s not the first time his name has appeared in transfer rumours this summer, but the player has consistently committed his future to Barca. Fati loves the club and still believes he can reach his full potential under Xavi.
It’s going to be interesting to see how this develops as Fati is an incredibly talented player, and as much as he loves the club, players of his calibre want to be starting.
Despite Fati being predominantly a left winger, with Dembele moving on, it will open up opportunities for the young Spanish playmaker.
Fati has been one of the stand-out performers of the pre-season so far, with his connection with Alejandro Balde coming in for serious praise.
I wouldn’t read too much into this rumour. Maybe it’s just the agents of PSG working to wind up Barcelona considering the two clubs are still waiting to complete the transfer of Dembele.
I’m not sure what it is about PSG, but they seem eternally attracted to any player in a Barcelona shirt.
