How did Barcelona’s loan players get on with their teams in week one?
Here at Everything Barcelona, we want to be your one-stop shop for all the Barca news and views that really matter. Part of that will be making sure you’re updated on the Barcelona players spending the 2023/24 season away from the La Liga champions. We’re also going to include updates on the players who we have buy-back options on who left this summer.
Pablo Torre (Midifelder) – On loan at Girona (La Liga)
Girona started their La Liga campaign with a battling 1-1 draw away at Real Sociedad with Artem Dovbyk scoring a 72nd-minute equaliser.
Torre started the match on the bench but was introduced in the 64th minute as Girona searched for an equaliser.
It was a rather uneventful 26 minutes for Torre with the Barca man completing just 66.7% of his passes, failing to register a key pass and losing possession 3 times.
Barcelona sent Torre on loan to Girona in the hope that he would be a regular starter, so hopefully he gets more of an opportunity in the coming weeks.
Julián Araujo (Defender) – On loan at Las Palmas (La Liga)
Las Palmas also started their La Liga campaign with a 1-1 draw, with Mallorca the guests in Gran Canaria.
Unfortunately for Araujo and Barcelona, the Mexican defender was an unused sub on the day.
Álex Valle (Defender) – On loan at Levante (Segunda Division, Spain)
Continuing on the same theme, Levante also started their league campaign with a 1-1 draw, away at SD Amorebieta at the Instalaciones de Lezama.
Having only recently completed his loan move, Valle was not in the squad for the game. But it’s expected that he will be a starter when his fitness allows.
Chadi Riad (Defender) – On loan at Real Betis (La Liga)
Real Betis enjoyed a winning start to their La Liga season with a 2-1 win away at Villareal at the Estadio de la Ceramica.
Chadi Riad made the bench for Betis, but was an unused substitute. With the talent at Betis, Riad may struggle to gain consistent minutes this season, but he will gain experience being around the first-team squad.
Saïdou Bah (Forward) – On loan at CD Badajoz (Segunda Federación, Spain)
CD Badajoz are still enjoying their pre-season with the Segunda Federacion league not starting until early September.
Estanis Pedrola (Forward) – On loan at Sampdoria (Serie B, Italy)
Sampdoria have yet to start their Serie B campaign in Italy, but they did progress in the Coppa Italia beating Sudtirol 7-6 on penalties after the game ended in a 1-1 draw.
Pedrola came on in the 72nd minute and ended up playing 58 minutes with extra time.
The Barcelona forward completed 93.5% of his passes with two key passes, and despite losing possession 6 times, he scored his penalty during the shootout.
Nico González (Midfielder) – Repurchase option at Porto (Primeira Liga, Portugal)
Barcelona hold a repurchase option of 30 million which is valid for two seasons, and they also hold a future sale clause of 40%
FC Porto won their opening game of the season 2-1 away at Moreirense despite ending the game with 10-men following the sending off of Wendell.
Nico Gonzalez started on the bench for the Portuguese side, playing the last 20 minutes. He completed 81% of his passes in an uneventful league debut.
Francisco Trincão (Forward) – Repurchase option at Sporting (Primeira Liga, Portugal)
Barcelona holds a repurchase clause of 20 or 25 million (depending on when it’s exercised). Barça also holds 50% of a future sale.
Sporting hit a 99th minute winner in their 3-2 victory over Vizela at the Jose Alvalade.
Trincão started the game and placed 64 minutes before being substituted. He completed 93.8% of his passes with 3 key passes, but failed to register a shot on target or get an assist.
Sporting are expecting Trincão to play a key role this season.
