Abde Ezzalzouli and Marcos Alonso have both received votes of confidence from Barcelona manager Xavi, and both are now expected to stay at the club this season.

Abde has drawn considerable interest following a good pre-season with German side Bayer Leverkusen being linked to the Morrocan this week.

It’s believed that Abde had a number of offers from Germany, Spain and England but preferred to stay in Catalonia, as long as he was assured of first-team minutes.

Abde was the first man off the bench on the opening day of the season as Xavi searched for the breakthrough against a physical and stubborn Getafe side. He also made an appearance in the 2-0 home win against Cadiz, so it’s clear that Xavi appreciates and believes in Abde’s ability to contribute this season.

Marcos Alonso still has a future at Barcelona

Veteran Marcos Alonso has yet to be registered with La Liga which fuelled speculation over his future, but the lack of registration is based more on the financial details. Xavi has always respected the former Chelsea man’s game and experience, and he’s a well-liked figure within the locker room.

Barca is intent on having cover at every position, and while Inigo Martinez is now the left-footed central defender, a role that Alonso played last year. Xavi is looking at Alonso as the ideal backup for starting left-back Alejandro Balde. He’s also seen as a good mentor for the young Balde considering his experience in Europe.

Barcelona are expecting another cash injection from the sale of Barca studios this week, and while a lot of that will be used to pay for and register Joao Cancelo who should arrive in Spain in the next 24-48 hours, Alonso has faith that he will be registered before the end of the month.

Unfortunately, this is the reality for Barca as we try and unravel the damage done by previous administrations.

Next. Barcelona could end up paying €25m for Joao Cancelo. dark
