FC Barcelona defender Clement Lenglet has been linked with a number of clubs this summer, and with just a handful of days, a new destination has emerged. Although Seville still has interest in signing Lenglet on a two-year loan deal, Premier League side Aston Villa have emerged in the last few hours.

According to football insider Fabrizio Romano, the West Midlands side is weighing up a move for the French defender.

Romano confirms that Barca is aware of several offers for the former Tottenham man, and are confident that he’ll leave during this transfer window.

Lenglet had previously been linked with a move to Marseille and the Saudi Pro League before his former club Seville entered the race earlier this week. Seville is currently rock bottom of La Liga having lost all 3 of their games to start the campaign, largely due to a leaky defence that has seen the side concede more goals than any other team.

Aston Villa eyeing Lenglet as Tyrone Mings’s replacement.

Aston Villa have been health some horrific injury luck to start the year. After star midfielder Emi Buendia was ruled out for the year in the pre-season, Mings suffered a serious knee injury on the opening day of the season. It was later revealed to be his ACL, with the England international unlikely to play again this season.

That’s opened up the possibility of Lenglet moving to Villa.

It was expected that if Lenglet were to return to the Premier League, it would be to play for Tottenham, where he spent the 2022/23 season on loan, but Spurs have failed to submit an acceptable offer and their interest has cooled significantly over the last few weeks.

Villa are currently in the UEFA Conference League play-offs and took a formidable 5-0 first-leg lead over Scottish side Hibernian last week.

Lenglet would be the perfect signing for Villa considering his experience, both in terms of European competition and the Premier League.
