Sevilla will have to look elsewhere to bolster their attack, as Barcelona winger Ansu Fati has reportedly decided to join Tottenham.

The Andalusian club were understood to be open to hand Fati a lifeline at Sánchez Pizjuán and even the player’s father, Bori Fati, wanted him to join José Luis Mendilibar’s side.

However, the 20-year-old has informed Sevilla that he wants to move to Tottenham Hotspur, Mundo Deportivo have reported. They further claim all that remains is for the two clubs to find consensus on terms for his transfer. His agent Jorge Mendes is understood to be working on speeding up the negotiations.

Ansu Fati not part of Xavi’s plans at Barcelona

The Spanish talent headed into the new season with the mindset of cementing his place in Xavi’s side and reports early in the summer suggested he has no desire to leave Camp Nou.

Ousmane Dembélé‘s move to Paris Saint-Germain further cooled down suggestions of Fati’s exit as it seemed the 20-year-old would get additional first-team opportunities in the absence of multiple elite wingers at Xavi’s disposal.

However, the manager refused to rule out Fati’s potential sale during a press conference early this month. Further, in the opening three La Liga games, Xavi didn’t hand the La Masia graduate any start.

Whether the recent development changed Fati’s plans remains unclear, but everything suggests he will leave his boyhood club before the close of the transfer window.

Barcelona, meanwhile, are planning on activating the “Operation Joao Felix” in the next 48 hours, as per Fabrizio Romano. The club’s hierarchy is working to find a way to sign the Atletico Madrid star amid Financial Fair Play concerns. In that regard, Fati’s move to Spurs might prove to be a blessing for the Blaugrana.
