Defenders

Jules Kounde – 9

In what’s becoming a regular feature in the player rating, Kounde was once again one of the best players on the pitch. It was a superb header to open the scoring and just before he’d forced a save from the keeper by stepping up and unleashing a 25-yard shot. Defensively he was very sound all night and I can’t remember him putting a put wrong.

Andreas Christensen – 7

Wasn’t asked to do a whole lot of defending, but when he was he did it well. Was replaced late in the game for Inigo Martinez, but he was comfortable on the ball and maintained possession well. Always a good player to have in the box against teams like Osasuna who put as many balls in as possible.

Alejandro Balde – 7

A lot of the attacks from Osasuna in the first half came down his side, and while he defended well he wasn’t as confident or effective going forward. He lost possession more than he usually does (17 times) and fortunately, his speed made up for some control issues. Not a bad day, but we know what he’s capable of.

Sergi Roberto – 7

I was surprised to see Roberto playing with Cancelo now in the building, but overall I thought Roberto did a decent job and while he wasn’t asked to defend a lot, he did get forward in support of Yamal well and constantly offered an overload on the right. I don’t imagine he’ll play too many more games, but it was a nice bounceback after last week.

Joao Cancelo – 7.5

We saw the kind of quality that Cancelo will bring with a gorgeous floated cross with the outside of his boot to find Lewandowski, unfortunately, Cancelo had strayed into an offside position which shouldn’t happen when you’re looking across the line. His ability on the ball and instincts at RB was evident from the moment he stepped on the field.

Inigo Martinez – 6.5

Finally making his debut for Barcelona, Martinez had one moment where hearts were in mouths as he put his arms around the striker, but the referee judged it wasn’t enough for a free kick and a potentially sticky situation. Wasn’t on very long, more to come.
