Midfielders

Frenkie de Jong – 8.5

Everything good that Barca did came through FDJ, I’m not sure there is a better midfielder in La Liga at receiving the ball in tight situations and worming through. He hit the post within a minute, and I just wish he’d get forward even more. He drove the action throughout the game and his floated pass led to the Lewandowski penalty.

Oriol Romeu – 7.0

I thought Romeu started really well and he had a number of key passes in the first 20-25 minutes. Unfortunately, he does tend to fade as the game goes on and he won under 50% of his contested tackles on the ground. He was replaced and rightfully so, but he still broke up play well.

Ilkay Gundogan – 7.5

Was a beautiful whipped corner for the first goal and he had his moments, but I still don’t think we’re seeing the best of Gundogan. Had a couple of opportunities to set Felix through at the end and chose not to, still looks a little tentative in the final third, but plenty to work with.

Gavi – 7.5

He’s still working his way into form this year, at points he looks like a bull in a china shop, and while he works harder than anyone on the pitch, I wish there was more end product in the offensive zones. He was very lucky not to get booked, especially late when he kicked the ball away. He’s still extremely tidy on the ball, but I wish he’d sometimes look for a more creative option.
