Only Atlético Madrid have scored more goals than FC Barcelona through the first four games of the La Liga season, but if you’ve watched every minute so far you’ll know that doesn’t tell the whole story.
Lewandowski has 3 goals in 4 games but you get the feeling he’s not at his best, and while Ferran Torres looks to be in the best shape of his life, the depth behind those two is questionable at best.
Barca has signed promising young Spanish striker Diego Percan for Barça Atlètic, in the hope that he can develop his game and become an option for the first team in 12-24 months. But like all big clubs, their scouting network is on the lookout for the next big name to join the ranks.
Barcelona tracking Bundesliga hitman Benjamin Sesko
Barcelona have already secured the signing of Brazilian Vitor Roque, who is expected to arrive in Spain from Athletico Paranaense during the January transfer window.
Roque has already scored 20 goals across all competitions this year for the Brazilian side, which is why they were reluctant to allow him to leave in the summer, with the Brazilian Serie A season in full flow and the qualification for next year’s Copa Libertadores heating up.
But they could be in the market for another striker with Francesc Aguilar confirming that the Catalan giants are tracking Benjamin Sesko who moved to RB Leipzig this summer from affiliate RB Salzburg. It’s believed that Barca have been tracking Sesko for a long time, with him first catching everyone’s attention with his season-long loan move to FC Liefering.
An outstanding goal record at every stop for Benjamin Sesko
Sesko has wasted little time in acclimatising to the rigours of German football, with the Slovenian striker scoring a brace at the weekend against Champions League bound Union Berlin.
Scoring goals comes naturally to Sesko, who’s been prolific throughout his young career. He scored 22 goals in 44 games for FC Liefering before bagging 21 goals in 55 games for Red Bull Salzburg. Now he’s scored 2 in 2 for RB Leipzig.
Despite being just 20 years old, Sesko has already made 22 appearances for the Slovenian national team, scoring on 7 occasions, scoring against teams like Sweden, Norway and Serbia, as well as lesser teams Malta, Romania, San Marino and last night against Northern Ireland.
It’s unclear how concrete the interest is, and considering they’ve signed Roque I’d be surprised to see them go hard for Sesko within the next 12 months. But chances are he’s only going to get more expensive and if he has a 15-20 goal season in the Bundesliga, his value will double.
