Manchester United are experiencing a difficult start to their season. They currently find themselves 13th in the Premier League having won just 2 of their opening 5 fixtures and also lost 4-3 to Bayern Munich in their Champions League opener on Wednesday. But recent reports indicate they’re making a move for a Brazilian striker who’s been linked with FC Barcelona.

Erk ten Hag has a number of issues to contend with at the moment, including a disgruntled Jadon Sancho who has been isolated at the club following comments he made about being scapegoated. This was after the United manager dropped the England international for the 1-3 home defeat to Brighton, where Ansu Fati is spending his season on loan.

Despite the problems, Manchester United remain a destination due to their profile. Now reports by Fichajes have indicated that they’ve set their sights on a player once described as the new Neymar.

Manchester United looking to sign Marcos Leonardo, once linked to FC Barcelona

Leonardo is an outstanding talent whose current deal with Santos is set to expire in December 2026.

He’s largely considered to be one of the most exciting talents in Brazil and many pundits expect him to move either in January of this year or January next year.

The 20-year-old forward who operates on the left-hand side has scored 9 goals in 18 matches in Serie A for Santos, who find themselves in the relegation zone as things stand.

If they were to get relegated then they would almost certainly lose Leonardo, who could cost as little as €20 million.

FC Barcelona have previously been linked with a move for the man from Bahia, and despite signing Vitor Roque, Barcelona could still make a move for the player considering Roque is more of a #9 and Leonardo operates out wide.

If Leonardo were to join United, he would join a long list of Brazilians who have turned out for the club. Barca also has a head start in South America considering the familiarity of Sporting Director Deco with the region.
