FC Barcelona has been forced to adapt its strategy in the transfer market, that’s what happens when you’re close to €1.4 billion in debt and closely monitored by La Liga’s financial fair play police.

The strategy has paid dividends so far with the likes of Gundogan joining on a free and Joao Felix and Joao Cancelo joining on loan.

It’ll be a few years until Barcelona can be challenging teams with €100 million bids again, so that smart strategy will continue into the 2024 season.

We’ve already heard that Barca is paying close attention to players with expiring contracts like Wilfred Ndidi of Leicester and Nico Williams of Athletic Bilbao.

But they’re reportedly also keeping a close on eye players who are under some scrutiny at their current clubs. The list presented by Mundo Deportivo included the likes of Mathis de Ligt who’s struggling for playing time at Bayern Munich, Arsenal duo Jorginho and Kei Havertz as well as Manchester United forward Anthony Martial.

FC Barcelona are monitoring the Jadon Sancho situation at Manchester United

Jadon Sancho is an incredibly talented forward who made a name for himself in Germany with Borussia Dortmund.

Those scintillating performances in Dortmund convinced Manchester United to part with €100 million for the England international, but he’s failed to perform at Old Trafford.

Now the situation has gone from bad to worse for Jadon Sancho, who publically criticised Erik ten Hag about his playing time. As a result, the Manchester United manager has banished Sancho until he apologises, which doesn’t seem likely anytime soon.

There is a lot of talk that Sancho has been late to multiple training sessions and staff believe that he doesn’t get enough sleep to maximise his performance. In short, it sounds as though a lot of people are questioning his commitment, which although unsubstantiated, is a concern.

Like any deal, the risk/reward would have to be weighed up. If Barcelona believe they can get the best out of Sancho and can get him on a cut-price deal with United wanting to shift him, it’s a situation worth monitoring.
