The Saudi Pro League made several marquee signings this summer including former Barcelona man Neymar. Despite the signings, the league has failed to make much of a cut-through with football fans, and Saad Bguir from Abha Club believes more stars will help with that.

The Tunisian midfielder has been openly speaking about the need to bring in more firepower, not only to increase the quality of the league but to add more commercialisation which in turn brings attention.

One player who attracted attention over the summer was FC Barcelona striker Robert Lewandowski. The Polish forward was reportedly a target for an unnamed club, although that club has now been revealed to be Abha.

That makes sense considering the club is managed by former Polish player Czesław Michniewicz, who has a very good relationship with Lewandowski.

The issue is that Lewandowski is still a highly productive player having scored 33 goals across all competitions during his first year in Spain, he’s starting 2023 well with 6 goals in 8 appearances.

Saad Bguir believes adding FC Barcelona’s Robert Lewandowski would be huge

Bguir was talking about how the league can gain traction saying:

"“We need top-level players like Lewandowski. Those are the types of signings we should make if possible.”"

There had been talk of Lewandowski moving to Saudi this summer, but the Polish striker was reportedly not interested in making the switch at this point in his career.

It remains to be seen if Lewandowski will ever want to move to Saudi, the lifestyle there isn’t for everyone while he’s still productive in European football there is no incentive to make the move outside of finances, and I’m pretty sure Lewandowski isn’t struggling.

Although China tried to make a breakthrough a few years ago, players will now have the choice to play in the USA or Saudi Arabia during the twilight of their careers. I know which one I’d choose.
