FC Barcelona cast a wide net when trying to find players to improve their playing squad, but just 5-10% of the players linked to Barca end up making the move to Spain.
Barca fans were forced to wait during the summer transfer window, but that patience was rewarded with the signings of Joao Felix and Joao Cancelo on deadline day.
That turned what could have been a disappointing transfer window into one that built genuine excitement around the club ahead of a season away from the Camp Nou.
Not only do Barcelona have La Liga aspirations, but they’re looking to make a statement in the Champions League. Not just because doing well means a bump in reputation, but it also means a bump in finances, and we all know that Barca needs all the financial help it can get.
One player they were linked with this summer is apparently staying put, but if everything goes to plan, Barcelona won’t mind too much.
Jeremie Frimpong set to sign new deal at Bayer Leverkusen
If you followed the Barcelona transfer rumour mill closely this summer, you’ll have seen a number of right-backs linked with a move to the club.
Xavi always insisted that Joao Cancelo was his priority target, and the Barca manager finally got his man. If everything goes well this season, Cancelo is expected to make a permanent move to Catalonia next summer.
But we all know that things can change. Jeremie Frimpong was a name that was mentioned back in August, and the young attacking right-back would have been an exciting signing.
But, Frimpong appears to be staying in Germany with Bayer Leverkusen according to football insider Fabrizio Romano. While a new deal doesn’t rule out a potential future signing, it usually increases the price with the players committed for longer.
If Barcelona struggles to sign Cancelo next summer, it’s likely Frimpong won’t be an option.
