FC Barcelona Player Ratings: 0-1 win in Portugal
By Luis Garcia
FC Barcelona traveled to Portugal on Wednesday to face FC Porto, looking to take six points from six to start off their Champions League campaign. In a match that wasn’t the best for Barça (not even close), Ferran Torres was the difference maker. Xavi’s men would win by the minimum, as the shark fired in a goal late in the first half.
However, there are most certainly things to improve on for the blaugrana. Defensively, they still look pretty leaky, as Porto had more than enough chances to get a score in this one. Thanks to some heroic defending from Koundé and Araújo, they were able to survive, but the midfield still seems to be an issue. We know the problems they’ve had out of possession, but the absences of Frenkie de Jong and Pedri are obvious to see. It was tough for them to play out from the back, and the lack of control from the center of the pitch was still apparent.
How did each player perform individually? Let’s take a look:
Goalkeeper
Marc-André ter Stegen – 8/10
Very good command of the box in this one. He made a few nice saves, a strong clearance on a corner, and grabbed a cross confidently to effectively end the game. His passing was pretty good, although risky at times – but that’s ter Stegen for you.
