Due to the financial restrictions at Barcelona, Xavi currently has a thin squad to choose from. When you add in the string of unfortunate injuries, the starting XI largely picks itself.

There are currently contrasting reports about the financial situation at FC Barca, with the details set to be officially released later this month. So while the team only spent just under €4 million on permanent transfers this summer, it’s expected they’ll be bigger players in the transfer market next summer.

The first bit of transfer business to be concluded is the arrival of Vitor Roque from Brazil, everything is agreed with the only question mark being when he arrives. It’s largely believed that Roque will be the priority in January, and that will be the only bit of big business Barca accomplish.

Once Roque is in the building, Barcelona will turn their attention to strengthening midfield. Despite the emergence of talented attacking midfielder Fermin Lopez, Barca has been left seriously short due to the Frenkie de Jong and Pedri injuries.

According to BILD (via ESPN) in Germany, it’s becoming increasingly likely that Dani Olmo will be making the switch to Catalonia next summer.

It’s believed that Olmo’s contract in Leipzig contains a release clause which is set between €60-€65 million depending on the club. Olmo spent time during his youth with Barca before moving on a free transfer to Dinamo Zagreb, and reportedly would see a return as a dream move

"Barcelona is Olmo’s dream move after playing for them during his youth career, so Leipzig would be willing to accept an offer at the lower end of that sum, though Barca’s financial situation would need to be solved first.Olmo, his father Miquel and agent Andy Bara have often spoken with Barca about a possible return, and a secret meeting in Qatar was reported during the 2022 World Cup. The Spain international surprisingly renewed his Leipzig contract after those talks, although the new clause was included."

Olmo has started the season well for Leipzig having scored 2 goals and assisted another in just 3 Bundesliga appearances. He also scored a hattrick in the 2023 DFL-Supercup against Bayern Munich.
