Barcelona interested in Premier League Japanese superstar

Barcelona have significant work to do before they can add Vitor Roque in January, a player they’ve already signed. But that doesn’t stop the rumour mill from linking them with a number of options in next summer’s transfer window.

It’s likely that due to the financial issues currently facing the Catalonia club, they’ll need to be prudent in the market and won’t be able to splash out on multiple options. Dani Olmo is a player who has recently been linked, but he’ll cost around €60 million.

Brighton’s Japanese superstar Kaoru Mitoma is a new name being linked with a potential move to Spain, with Mundo Deportivo confirming that he has a lot of admirers in the Barcelona management team.

Mitoma has been a sensation since joining Brighton, with a number of electrifying displays in the Premier League. With his contract set to expire in 2025, a number of teams are aware of his situation with Barcelona being one of them.

Over here in the UK, there has been significant talk about a contract extension. It’s believed that Mitoma is very happy at Brighton and the south-coast club will look to extend his contract in the coming months, in order to protect their asset.

The Japanese international scored 7 goals with 5 assists last season as Brighton continued their ascent up the Premier League. He already has 3 goals and 3 assists in just 8 games for the Seagulls this year, with Brighton currently sitting 6th in the Premier League having won 5 of their 8 games.

Mitoma cost Brighton just €4 million when they signed him from Kawasaki Frontale in 2021, and it’s expected that his value has exponentially risen, Transfermarkt currently values him at €50 million and if he ends up signing a new deal, it’s likely it’ll cost more.

Barcelona have other priorities like signing a new defensive midfielder, but if there are some exits in the summer, Mitoma is a name to watch.
