Partizan Belgrade striker Matija Popovic is drawing a number of admirers with his play this year, and with his contract set to expire next summer, a number of top European clubs are interested in securing his signature.

According to Gianluca Di Marzio, Barcelona are among the teams tracking the 17-year-old shadow striker but will face serious competition from the likes of Real Madrid and Borussia Dortmund.

Barcelona and Real Madrid went head-to-head for the signature of Arda Guler, with the Turkish wonderkid choosing Madrid over Catalonia, and it’s expected that the two titans of Spanish football will do battle once again, with both clubs looking to secure the signature as quickly as possible.

Matija Popovic is a technically gifted shadow striker who likes to play in the #10 hole behind the striker. Very efficient on the ball, and he’s known for his vision and ability to create chances for his teammates.

Popovic scored 5 goals with 3 assists last year in 24 games for Partizan Belgrade’s youth side and is looking to take the next step in his career. With Barcelona securing the signature of Noah Darvich for their second team earlier this summer, Popovich would be a very welcome addition and Barcelona has never been shy about promoting from within.
