Pep Guardiola, the Manchester City manager, recently voiced his opinion on the Ballon d’Or award, stating that both Lionel Messi and Erling Haaland deserve to win the prestigious title. Guardiola’s comments come on the back of their remarkable performances in the footballing world.

Pep Guardiola on the Ballon d’Or

Messi, who captained Argentina to a World Cup triumph in Qatar, displayed incredible leadership skills and footballing prowess. In contrast, Haaland was instrumental in Manchester City’s successful season, scoring 52 goals in 53 matches as City clinched the Premier League, Champions League, and FA Cup treble.

In a recent Press conference, Pep Guardiola explained

"“Always I said the Ballon d’Or should be in two sections; one for Messi, then after another one so Haaland should win, yes. We won the treble, he scored a million goals. The worst season for Messi is the best for the rest of the players. Both deserve it. Realistically I want Haaland to have it because he helped us achieve what we achieved, I would love it. But Messi won the World Cup.”"

Messi’s successful campaign with Argentina in the World Cup certainly solidifies his position as a Ballon d’Or contender. Meanwhile, Haaland’s incredible goal-scoring feat was pivotal in Manchester City’s triumphant season. Guardiola’s sentiments reflect the impressive standards set by these two players in the world of football.

Erling Haaland and Norway

As Haaland recently delivered a brilliant performance for Norway during an international match, Guardiola is optimistic that this may signal a resurgence of form for the striker, who had a dry spell with Manchester City, going three games without a goal.

In a match against Cyprus, Haaland scored two goals, a reminder of his striking abilities that could once again shine through for City in the coming matches. Guardiola’s wish is for Haaland to continue his superb form, having greatly contributed to the success of Manchester City.

Both players have made compelling cases for their candidacy, making this year’s announcement a highly anticipated event for football enthusiasts worldwide.
