Raphinha looks like he could have a decision to make this summer, though anything but a Barcelona stay would make no sense at all.
The Brazilian has been a sensation for the Blaugrana, playing a key part in the last two league titles following his arrival from Leeds United. The winger has scored a remarkable 44 goals in 122 league games from out wide, and he remains a hugely valued player under Hansi Flick.
Saudi Arabia interest
In a fresh concern for Barca, there is interest from Saudi Arabia in Raphinha this summer, according to Mundo Deportivo. It's claimed. Al Hilal y Al Nassr are pushing hard to land the winger this summer, and that they are ready to present Barca with an offer of €80million.
Naturally, Raphinha will also receive a heft pay day given the tax advantages. Barca have him under contract until 2028 as things stand, and given he is 29 years of age, Raphinha is unlikely to get a long-term extension, though a pay rise is not out of the question given his performance.
Raphinha would be silly to leave
Thankfully, this is not 2024. We now know a little more about what it's like to play and live in Saudi Arabia, and many have returned quickly after making the move. With no judgement on the country's way of life, it is a big adjustment from a Western life in Spain, and Raphinha will be well aware of that having spent time there with Barca in the Supercopa.
Aside from all that, Raphinha is a vital part of this exciting Barca project that has already yielded two La Liga titles. The Blaugrana are only getting better and the logical next step is to push to get further in the Champions League, which will likely include some investment this summer.
That investment has already started with Anthony Gordon, and we are likely to see more incomings over the next couple of months. Barca are about to do battle with Jose Mourinho's Real Madrid, which will be another course of excitement this coming season, and with Camp Nou soon to be completed, it feels like one of the most exciting times to be at Barca in recent memory.
To leave all that to join a Saudi league that few outside of the Gulf nation really care about would be a baffling decision, esepcially for a player who is such a central part of this team.
