Hours of tension are being lived at the Ciutat Esportiva Joan Gamper, just four days before the European market closes. On one side, FC Barcelona is working to properly register players such as Wojciech Szczesny, Gerard Martin, Ronny, and Marc Bernal. According to Sport, the club should have no issues with registrations and will not depend on player sales.
On the other hand, Chelsea, recently crowned world champions and one of Barça’s upcoming rivals in the Champions League, is willing to sign Fermín López. The midfielder, remembered for his spectacular but disallowed goal against Real Madrid last season, could be signed for over €65 million with no conditions attached. While Sport reports this, Marca points out that an official offer is not yet be on Laporta’s desk.
Hansi Flick has publicly stated he doesn’t want any further changes to the squad, considering the long season ahead. Still, as seen with Iñigo, Barça might not be the transaction stopper if the player agrees to leave and the money flows into the club’s accounts with no restrictions, according to AS.
So if Chelsea actually sends an offer that satisfies Deco and Laporta, will Fermin be transferred?
It’s looking likely. Chelsea represents a great opportunity for Fermin. The world champions, and next rivals of Barca in the Champions League, are forming a great team formed by young players, such as Enzo Fernandez, Cole Palmer and the recently signed Estevao Willian. Also, Enzo Maresca’s team seems like an opportunity to play more often: there is no other explanation to be willing to pay such an amount by the transfer market closing.
Anyway, the decision is in Fermin’s hands. The Masia’s player, characterized as the rest of the youth Barca’s forces by their love to the institution, will have to decide if he does not get to ever play as a Barca player in the renewed Spotify Camp Nou (which is every Masia’s boy dream), or if he does as a rival in the Champions League.
