The World Cup reaches its penultimate stage on Tuesday as two European heavyweights go head-to-head in what is arguably the most eagerly anticipated match of the tournament, with Spain taking on France for a place in Sunday's final.

The semi-final will pit Spain's outstanding defence against its toughest test yet in a star-studded French attack packed with world-class talent. With so many Blaugrana stars expected to feature, Barcelona supporters will be watching closely as the race for a place in the World Cup final reaches its climax.

The Spanish champions will be heavily represented on both sides, with Pau Cubarsí, Lamine Yamal, Pedri, Ferran Torres and Dani Olmo all playing key roles for Spain, while Jules Koundé is set to marshal France's backline.

Hansi Flick will be watching closely back at home, with several of his stars expected to feature in what promises to be one of the tournament's defining matches

Who will feature tonight?

Lamine Yamal

He may not have enjoyed the World Cup many predicted, but after arriving with an injury he has steadily regained full fitness. With a place in the starting XI all but certain, don't be surprised if he produces his defining moment against France. His explosive pace and fearless dribbling have the potential to leave Lucas Digne struggling to contain him throughout the semi-final.

Pau Cubarsi

Cubarsi has spoken of no fear when coming up against Kylian Mbappe and Michael Olise, with the centre-back enjoying a superb tournament only conceding one goal to date. This could be a defining moment for Cubarsi as he is likely to start with Aymeric Laporte.

Jules Kounde

France will once again turn to Koundé's reliability in defence. The Barcelona star is expected to start ahead of Malo Gusto at right-back, where he will have the daunting task of containing either Álex Baena or Nico Williams. At the same time, his overlapping runs and composure in possession will be vital in providing support for Ousmane Dembélé as France look to threaten down the right flank.

Dani Olmo

He is expected to retain his place in the starting XI after partnering Fabián Ruiz in Spain's last outing, with Luis de la Fuente unlikely to make changes for such a crucial fixture. The Barcelona midfielder will be tasked with providing the creative spark in central areas, dictating the tempo and linking play as Spain look to unlock the French defence.

Pedri

This World Cup has not gone to plan for the midfield genius, with Pedri's form frustrating supporters from Madrid to Barcelona and Las Palmas. He is expected to start on the bench, but could become a key figure as the game opens up and more space appears in midfield.

Gavi

Gavi has featured in just two games so far, and with Pedri offering a more creative option while Mikel Merino provides an added goal threat from midfield, the Barcelona midfielder is unlikely to be called upon unless Spain need a late change. There is a chance he could replace Alex Baena on the left but with Nico Williams now fit, this is considered unlikely.

Ferran Torres

With one start and five appearances off the bench, the centre-forward could become a key option if the semi-final turns into a tight contest and Mikel Oyarzabal struggles to make an impact in attack. High chance he will come on.

Eric Garcia

Eric García is unlikely to feature unless Spain suffer an injury crisis involving their two centre-backs or Pedro Porro. With France posing a major threat down the left flank, it would be a huge challenge for the Barcelona defender, especially having made no appearances at the tournament so far.

Joan Garcia

Unai Simon has started all games, so it will raise eyebrows if he starts. Not likely to get ahead of David Raya either. No appearance from our ‘keeper in this tournament.
