The overhauling of the Barcelona youth setup continues, and this time, the Catalans have gone for experienced, homegrown power to bolster their ranks. FC Barcelona have just announced the arrival of Catalan forward, 22-year-old Ignasi Quer.
The 22-year-old arrives on a free transfer from CE L'Hospitalet and has signed with Bara Atletic until June 2028. A sensible and safe acquisition, this move is aimed directly at boosting the goalscoring prowess of the reserve team.
A prolific scorer in the lower tiers
If you're still wondering why the scouting department focused their efforts on this transfer, just look at his statistics. Ignasi Quer was phenomenal in the Tercera Federacin last season, finishing the campaign with a very strong total of 20 goals.
This prolific output was perfectly split between his previous two clubs, beginning the season with five goals for UE Vic, and then hitting the ground running in the second half of the campaign with fifteen goals for L'Hospitalet. The cutting edge in front of goal that he showed last season was something Barca Atletic desperately needed on occasions.
- Contract information: Quer is joining the Blaugrana development squad on a deal that runs until June 30, 2028.
- His style: He is a classic nine, ambidextrous, physically strong and very athletic.
- His Value: This transfer adds immediate goal threat to the attack.
Giving Belletti an offensive option
This transfer should be a tremendous help for manager Juliano Belletti. He needs to manage a very physical division and simultaneously prepare talent for Hansi Flick’s first team. Striking the right balance is not easy, but a proper, finishing striker such as Quer should help ease this transition.
Adding Quer will provide Belletti with a strong and prolific center forward to operate at the top of the pitch, reducing the burden on young forwards, and offering an experienced goalscorer ready to hit the ground running as preseason gets underway.
