Lamine Yamal has the football world at his feet, and the Barcelona star's latest comments will delight supporters ahead of the new La Liga season.
Currently preparing for Spain in their Round of 32 World Cup clash with Austria, the winger reminded everyone prior to the fixture that his heart remains firmly with Barcelona and that he is already looking forward to the new campaign.
His playful remarks were directed at current Spain teammate Marc Cucurella, who will become a domestic rival after completing his move to Real Madrid ahead of the upcoming season.
"“I told him he’s going to start the first game and be a substitute in the second because I’m going to eat him alive!” "Lamine Yamal
The left-back's high-profile move to the Santiago Bernabéu during the 2026 World Cup is likely to have raised a few eyebrows within the Spain camp, especially with eight Barcelona players in the squad.
Speaking to COPE from Spain's World Cup base, Yamal reflected on last season's meeting with Real Madrid and revealed a humorous exchange with his international teammate. "In the end, they celebrated the match and lost at our ground. I haven't spoken to Carvajal since, and I don't speak to anyone from Real Madrid."
Postivity about the World Cup
In the same interview, Yamal insisted that, as European champions, Spain fear no one and are confident they can become world champions. He also admitted the team has not yet reached its best level but believes it is improving with each game.
After a disappointing goalless draw with Curaçao, victories over Saudi Arabia and Uruguay secured top spot in the group. If Spain overcome Austria, they will face either Portugal or Croatia in the next round, with Yamal likely to see more minutes as he continues to build his match fitness.
A chance we could see the best Lamine Yamal later in the tournament.
