Lamine Yamal breaks World Cup record
True greatness never waits for age and Lamine Yamal certainly lives by that motto! Proving exactly why those "Where is Yamal?" chants from the Saudi Arabian fans were such an error in judgement, the Barcelona star delivered a world-class moment at the World Cup, silencing the stadium with a goal fitting of his undeniable talent.
Now with a place in football's illustrious history, the young prospect is officially the youngest player to ever score a goal at a World Cup at just 18 years and 343 days old. In doing so, Yamal has smashed the records previously set by Lionel Messi (18 years and 357 days) and Pele. The student has surpassed the master on the biggest stage in football, cementing his claim as the game's ultimate prodigy.
Left Back target secures Madrid move
While Yamal makes history on the international scene, a frustrated day for Barcelona in the board room could take an even worse turn as their left-back hunt now seems all but over. The Catalan side have long been desperate to bring in a competent left-back this summer and that goal appears to have slipped right through their grasp.
According to Fabrizio Romano, Alex Grimaldo is closing in on a move to Atletico Madrid, with the defender agreeing to personal terms and informing Bayer Leverkusen that he wishes to leave the club this summer.
While the former La Masia graduate was a man that Barcelona had their sights on for some time and had serious interest in signing him this summer, however a formal offer was never made to Leverkusen.
Club to club discussions are now expected to take place between the Bundesliga side and Madrid, with Leverkusen hoping for around 30m for their prized asset while Atletico aim to sign the 23-year-old for just 12-14m.
Defensive and attacking target list blocked
The frustrations for Barcelona in the transfer window do not end there as they continue to be blocked from key signings in attack and defence too:
Micky van de Ven: Barcelona’s move for Tottenham Hotspur’s talented young defender is officially over. The English club refuse to sell the player to any team this summer, meaning neither Barcelona or their rivals Liverpool can secure his services.
Julian Alvarez: Barcelona are in love with the Argentine striker and his arrival is top of the wishlist but a sale is strongly unlikely as the player has an entirely negative response regarding a potential move to Catalonia from his current club’s hierarchy.
Because the Blaugrana’s entire focus has been centred on the Argentine until now, all other transfer options have completely stalled in that position.
