Marc Casado's exit from Barcelona is entering the final stages. Reports from Spain confirm that his permanent move to AS Monaco is almost complete. This will provide an immediate financial solution to squad issues that Hansi Flick desired before confirming arrivals.

Both sides anticipate completing and finalizing all of the transfer during the course of this week.

Financial details: Fee and future protection

The monetary aspect of this agreement represents strong returns on the academy product, with first-team minutes likely to remain restricted at the club for some time to come.

  • Fixed amount: AS Monaco will deposit a guaranteed 18 million euros into Barcelona's account up front.
  • Variables: 5 million euros is available dependent on performance-based objectives being met.
  • Sell-on clause: Barcelona are in negotiations to secure a 20% sell-on clause for future sales. This will give the club a financial return should the 22-year-old develop significantly at Monaco and be sold on again to another European side in the future.

Elimination of the €12 million registration deficit

This move brings the club closer to achieving financial boost. Barcelona started this month requiring 12 million euros to clear a deficit and regain the ability to spend 1:1 with their La Liga regulations.

The guaranteed 18 million will completely balance this requirement and, as a result of making a profit on a youth academy player, It will also provide structural space for the club board to register other pending contracts, and more importantly, provide a midfield exit to enable Hansi Flick to confirm the signing of Bernardo Silva.

European football and incentives for Casado

The sporting and financial arguments present the player with a win-win situation. Hansi Flick was transparent with Casado about his lack of assured minutes at Barcelona next season.

Monaco provides the solution and, as a result, Casado will earn three times his salary at Barcelona and guaranteed participation in European football, as Monaco have qualified for the UEFA Europa Conference League next season.

The final contracts are in preparation and Barcelona have chosen to sacrifice a loyal youth player in order to gain the financial flexibility needed to reshape their first team for next year.
