FC Barcelona have secured the beating heart of Hansi Flick’s project as captain Raphinha put pen to paper on a two-year contract extension, binding him to the club until June 30, 2030.

The 29-year-old Brazilian had previously agreed to stay until the end of 2028 but signed with president Joan Laporta in the club’s offices to show his commitment to the club with a huge statement ahead of their La Liga clash with Atletico Madrid on Sunday.

Raphinha’s transformation

It marks an incredible evolution from the Brazilian who was constantly linked with a move out of the club in his first two seasons in Catalunya after joining from Leeds United in 2022. Entering his fifth season in a Barca shirt, Raphinha has taken up the captaincy after losing Marc-Andre ter Stegen and Ronald Araujo over the summer. The winger has transformed from being a wide player in the team to an unstoppable centre-forward replacing Robert Lewandowski and Ferran Torres.

His performances in the early stages of the 2026/27 season have been of Ballon d'Or standard. Already in just 13 games this season Raphinha has scored 19 goals and provided 3 assists. He is currently leading the Pichichi race in La Liga with 15 goals and has scored 4 goals in the UEFA Champions League.

The striker also scored twice in Tuesday night’s clash against Aston Villa to break into club history. He has now played 190 games for the club and scored 94 goals in total. This means Raphinha officially drew level with Adriano Correia as the Brazilian with the fourth-most appearances in club history, while matching the iconic Ronaldinho’s all-time Barcelona goalscoring tally (94).

Raphinha wants one more trophy before 2030

Having already won 7 trophies in Catalunya, including three La Liga titles (2022/23, 2024/25, 2025/26), three Spanish Super Cups and one Copa Del Rey, it was clear the Brazilian wanted to win the UEFA Champions League before the new contract expires:

"I could never imagine that in my first two years I would be here now. I knew what I was able to do for this club but there is one championship that I still need to win. I want to win as many as possible in this shirt between now and 2030"

Raphinha also assured Culers that he is not currently playing at his best but his crazy start to the season. Having secured their fearless leader until the end of the decade, Barcelona couldn’t be in safer hands.
