Barcelona Talent Ángel Alarcón On RB Leipzig's Radar
By Shree Desai
After losing Bryan Zaragoza to Bayern Munich, RB Leipzig has shown a keen interest in Ángel Alarcón. Leipzig has been following Bryan for a long time, but a reported €13 million fee plus add-ons shattered their dreams.
Leipzig were probably ready for this and have brewed up a back-up. Ángel Alarcón fits the bill of a Roten Bullen attacker, who is both fast and can finish. The Bulls are known for developing the likes of Joshua Kimmich, Dayot Upamecano and Christopher Nkunku, to name a few.
According to Marca, Roten Bullen also sent scouts to watch him in action with FC Barcelona Atlètic. The La Masia graduate impressed the Leipzig scouts and the German club is now convinced to sign the 19-year-old.
The Spanish international was born in Castelldefels and started his youth career at Vista Alegre, where both of his parents played. Later, when Ángel was 8, he made the shift to Catalan rivals RCD Espanyol. He joined Barcelona in 2018.
Since joining Barcelona, the Castelldefels native has made significant progress in his career. He debuted for the B team in 2021 but later was out for the rest of the season due to an ACL rupture. Injuries didn't hold Ángel back as he came back strong and made his first team debut in 2023.
Alarcón has made four appearances for the first team and has since become a regular name in match-day squads.
How Barcelona's Financial Situation Can Affect The Transfer?
As everyone knows, Barcelona is in a deep financial crisis. This might very well affect the decision regarding Alarcón. Although Xavi likes the lad, the club might force him to leave to make up space for upcoming players.
There is also the possibility of a loan deal where both parties can get what they want. Barça wants to hold on to the player and Leipzig only sees him as a short or medium term asset. Sending the Spanish international on a loan will also help develop the player to his full potential.
